Amalfi

This town overlooking the sea ia a destination for thousands of tourists throughout the year and offers surprises around every corner!

The most characteristic monument is definitely the Cathedral, with its arabesque style, dedicated to the city’s patron saint St. Andrew, next to which you can visit the Paradise Cloister.

Museum lovers can visit the Compass Museum, in honor of the inventor of the compass, originally from Amalfi, Flavio Gioia, and the Paper Museum.

According to one legend, the town is named after Amalfi, a nymph loved by Hercules who was buried here at the behest of the gods. Certainly inhabited by the Romans, who had fled to the Lattari Mountains to escape Germanic and Lombard invasions, it was a castrum for the defense of the Byzantine Duchy of Naples.
